George D. Behrakis Endowed Chair
Dr. Alexandros Makriyannis, Ph.D. is the George D. Behrakis Endowed Chair in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology at Northeastern University. Dr. Makriyannis has spent the two decades inventing and applying chemical, biochemical and biophysical approaches to study the endocannabinoid signaling system and exploring its therapeutic potential. In 2005, he established Northeastern University’s Center for Drug Discovery. Dr. Makriyannis is a Professor of Chemistry, Chemical Biology and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Director of the Center for Drug Discovery at Northeastern University. He served as the Head of Scientific Advisory Board at CannaVest Laboratories, LLC since June 2014. Dr. Makriyannis serves as a Member of Advisory Board at CV Sciences, Inc. He served as a Member of Scientific Advisory Board at CannaVest Laboratories, LLC. Through his multidisciplinary work encompassing both chemistry and biology, he has been a pioneer in chemical biology even before this designation was coined. He was among the first to define the biochemical pathways of endocannabinoids within the human endocannabinoid system (ECS).
